After the entrance exam

Have you participated in the written test for a bachelor's or diploma programme? We hope you left the VIECON with a good feeling.

Are you now wondering what the next steps look like for you? Don't worry, we will guide you through the process.

The written test of your degree programme did not take place?

The reason for this is that the number of available study places exceeded the number of applicants this year. All applicants who have submitted their application for admission in due time receive a study place.

Step 1: Wait for your test result

The written test for your degree programme took place? You will receive your results within 14 days of the test by e-mail to the address you provided in u:space. Please also check your spam folder. This e-mail will also contain information about the next steps.

Step 2: Complete the admission procedure

How you complete the admission procedure depends on these questions:

  • Have you ever studied at the University of Vienna or are you currently studying at the University of Vienna?
  • Which country was your secondary-school leaving certificate/degree issued in?

Your next steps depend on the country where your secondary-school leaving certificate was issued in:

In which country was your secondary-school leaving certificate issued?
  1. Check the status of your application in u:space. The required status is “submitted”. If it is still “amend”, upload your missing secondary-school leaving certificate (ALL pages combined into one PDF file). This will complete the amendment of your application.
  2. Log in to the Servicedesk with your u:account and let us know that you wish to accept your study place as soon as possible. Please note: We may ask you to book an appointment for online first-time admission.
  3. We will process your request within ten working days. Once you have been (preliminarily) admitted, you will receive an e-mail containing your student ID number and information about the next steps.

Wait for your admission letter. Admission to the programme is only possible with the admission letter. Have you received it already? Then there are two options:

Option 1: No supplementary examinations are prescribed in your admission letter. 

  1. Book an appointment for online first-time admission.
  2. During the appointment we will verify your identity and check your documents. You will then receive information about the next steps in the admission procedure.

Option 2: Supplementary examinations are prescribed in your admission letter.

  1. Register for the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU) and pay the course fee there.
  2. After registering with the VWU, book an appointment for online first-time admission via our appointment booking tool before the end of the admission period.
  3. After the appointment, you will be preliminarily admitted to the non-degree programme (= to attend the VWU). You may not yet begin your degree programme, but may only take supplementary examinations at the VWU. After admission, you will receive an e-mail with all further information.

Please note: Admission to a degree programme is only possible once you have passed all supplementary examinations and successfully completed the entrance exam procedure.

You have until 31 March of the following year to pass the supplementary examinations and complete the admission procedure for a degree programme. If you do not finish in time, you must re-register for the entrance exam procedure for the following academic year and take part in it again.

Have you already been admitted to a degree programme at the University of Vienna, or would you like to take up an additional degree programme alongside your current one? Once the admission period has started, please let us know via the Servicedesk that you wish to accept your study place. We will process your request within ten working days and inform you about the next steps in the admission procedure.

To transfer from the VWU to the degree programme, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete all supplementary examinations.
  2. Combine all certificates of the supplementary examinations and your admission letter into a single PDF file.
  3. Send us the file via the Servicedesk within the admission period.
  4. In your message, please indicate which degree programme you would like to be admitted to.

Please note: Admission to a degree programme is only possible once you have passed all supplementary examinations and successfully completed the entrance exam procedure.

You have until 31 March of the following year to pass the supplementary examinations and complete the admission procedure for a degree programme. If you do not finish in time, you must re-register for the entrance exam procedure for the following academic year and take part in it again.

You are only admitted to the programme once your tuition fee/Students' Union fee has been received by the University of Vienna.

Admission in the summer semester is only possible if you successfully participated in the entrance exam/aptitude test procedure last summer or are exempt from it.

The aptitude test for the Bachelor's program in teacher education is valid indefinitely. Once you have successfully completed it, you can be admitted during the admission period for a later semester.

Even if you start in the summer semester, the steps in the admission procedure are the same as described above on this page.

By renouncing your study place, you enable someone on the waiting list to study. Contact us via the Servicedesk and inform us that you are renouncing your study place.

Please note: If you decide to study later, you will have to participate in the entrance exam/aptitude test procedure again (exception: Bachelor's degree in teacher education)

Only if someone else renounces their place. The place will be offered to the people on the waiting list in order. If a place becomes available, we will contact you by email and you will have to decide within a deadline set by us whether you want to accept the place.
If there is no place available for you and you are still interested in this course, we wish you every success for the next entrance exam/aptitude test procedure.

Yes, provided that you have applied for admission to this program within the application period and meet all the requirements.
